Functions unique for the PC version

It now comes with a completely new database management system and expanded order storage. This function, called the JOSAM homebase, makes it very simple for the user to create orders, take measurements and make reports. In the actual measuring part of the system, the JOSAM truckaligner II, there is the possibility of measuring wheel angles in a well-thought out flow of information and work on the basis of the limit values recommended by the manufacturers.

Handheld version

The handheld computer version is based on the Windows CE operating system and is equipped with an 8 inch LCD screen for easy reading.

This portable computer communicates with the measuring heads without the use of cables and a keyboard and printer can be added via USB connections. The powerful, rechargeable battery provides an operating time of more than 8 hours.

The handheld computer is specially designed for a tough workshop environment and can be carried around or used inside the vehicle. It is ideal for mobile measuring or in the service pit.

The equipment is approved and recommended by most truck and bus manufacturers.

The software is not only a database for handling and printing wheel alignment data from an ordinary PC.

It also includes upgrade features for the handheld unit such as

  • Wheel alignment functions for 4x4s, vans and light trucks.
  • Automatic compensation of Caster/KPI when using turn plates together with an electronic level.
  • A back-up for the handheld in regards to emptying it and to keeping track of the history of the measurements.

Is it possible place target scales in the workplace for correct wheel alignment?

Yes! With the JOSAM i-track wheel alignment system for commercial vehicle a diagnosis of the alignment of a vehicle is faster and more efficient than ever before. Set aside one or more places in the workshop which are allocated for wheel alignment and perform measurement diagnoses on an assembly line basis.

The biggest difference compared to the earlier system, is that the target scales for the JOSAM i-track are mounted on the walls or the floor of the workplace. The only things that are mounted on the vehicle are the wheel adapters and the measuring heads. This means that vehicles, which earlier were difficult to measure on account of a lack of appropriate places to mount the measuring equipment, can now be measured without any problems.

Examples of vehicle types where there were earlier difficulties are buses, minibuses, and light trucks. Now one can measure these vehicles quickly, simply and with precision.

The system

The JOSAM speedfactory is a cordless wheel measuring system, where PC software, with the help of a pulsing laser and active measuring scales, gives quick and exact measuring results to the operator. The system is intended for use by the manufacturers of trucks, trailers and buses, where one concentrates on the measurement of wheel angles which can be adjusted during production. The focus has been on developing an effective and user-friendly measuring method for toe, out of square, and parallelism between axles.

Speedfactory

The method

The measuring method works by using the geometric centre line of the vehicle as a reference. With the help of self-centering frame gauges at the front and back of the vehicle, one easily finds this centre line.

Since the active measuring scales are placed on extensions equally far out from the centreline on each side of the vehicle, measurement references which are parallel with the centre line are established.

Quality control functions

  • Double-sided pulsating line lasers make run-out compensation unnecessary. By rotating the wheel a half a revolution, the need for run-out compensation is eliminated.
  • The scales only detect the Speedfactory lasers. Every side of the laser pulsates with its own known frequency. This guarantees that the scales only detect hits from the lasers used by the system and only one time from each laser beam.
  • Vehicle configuration. The pre-defined vehicle configurations are easily loaded in with the help of a bar code reader, thereby eliminating the human factor as a source of error.
  • Shims calculation. With the help of pre-defined shim thickness, it can be calculated which shims should be placed in what position on the vehicle.

Hardware

  • The hardware which is used in Speedfactory has been developed to give high flexibility.

Functions

  • Replaceable batteries. Both lasers and scales have replaceable batteries with an operating time of approx. 6 hours.
  • Universal scales. The scales are not location-dependent.
  • Distance measurement. Since one of the lasers is tilted, one can measure the distance between the laser and the scales quickly and easily.

Software

The software for the PC which accompanies JOSAM speedfactory has a userfriendly graphic user interface. The user is guided step by step through the work flow.

Functions

  • Support for inverted chassis. For correct calculation of out of square the program can be configured for measurement of an inverted chassis.
  • Support for measuring and adjusting of twin-steer axles
  • Printer function. Automatic printing to a label printer and/or PDF after measuring and adjustment of the vehicle.
  • A user interface that can be configured. The software can be configured to show/conceal different types of measuring results during adjustment.
  • Client/server. The measurement results from different measuring stations can be saved centrally by connection to a server. Support for an offline-status exists.

JOSAM Play Detectors For Commercial Vehicles

Before measuring the wheel angles, a play detector is used to ensure that all bushings and bearings are free from excess play.

This is necessary in order to determine wear and tear on wheel suspension and steering systems.

The JOSAM play detectors are available in 2 versions

AM 900 K, which is suitable only for the workshop pit, has cylinders underneath the plates that rest on the edge of the pit and the AM 800 K which is designed for the flat workshop floor, with cylinders located above the plates.
The ideal feature with the JOSAM play detectors is that they can be mounted easily in the workshop without any concrete casting. Three expander bolts are used on each side and the pump is fastened in the pit wall or the workshop wall.

The checkup itself is carried out by driving the axles, pair by pair, over the plates. When the axle is placed onto the plates the brake is applied. The play is analyzed on the opposite side of the plate which has been set in motion, i.e. if you shake the left side the play is checked on the right side. The operator steers the movement of the plates by means of a control handle that has a built-in light as well.

JOSAM alignment profit center

  • JOSAM's multi-function alignment pit is a real profit center. Equipped with hydraulic play detectors to diagnose parts wear on the vehicle, it adds instant credibility to the workshop.
  • The "super pit 2000" can also be configured as a frame straightening machine or a double-ended alignment rack. The overall length will be determined by the application.
  • The "rolling work table" moves at a touch on roller bearings. Capable of rolling the length of the pit the work tables lift up to 40 000 Ibs (about 20 ton). Three of these tables convert the pit into a frame repair area.
