Most engineers know the importance of regularly checking the rectilinearity of the crankshaft on marine diesels. To use an indicator clock was time-consuming, unpleasant and dirty, and it yielded dubious measurement results. As a consequence, these checks were made less and less frequently, which increased the risk of an engine break-down. The introduction of the electronic deflection indicator by Prisma Teknik has made the task simpler and more effective and the measurement results more accurate.

The deflection indicator DI-5 has been used by a large number of engineers in more than 60 countries. The manufacturing of this product has been going on for almost 20 years. Easy usage, along with high reliability and accurate measurements, have made the DI-5 very popular. Many engine producers use the DI-5 to keep their own production in check.

The DI-5C is a complete unit with a battery-driven digital instrument and a transducer with extension bars. The product is kept in a strong wooden case. Thanks to its simplicity, the DI-5 is used whenever a need for measuring arises and it detects the errors that might otherwise have lead to costly repairs.

The deflection indicator DI-5, precursor of the DI-5C, has been used by a large number of engineers in more than 60 countries. The manufacturing of this product has been going on for almost 20 years. Easy usage, along with high reliability and accurate measurements, have made the DI-5 very popular. Many engine producers use the DI-5 to keep their own production in check.

The latest model, the DI-5C, looks very much like the DI-5, but it is controlled by a micro-processor and has the capacity to store documents and transfer the information to a PC. Up to 45 documents can be stored internally in the DI-5C. Supervisory control and adjustments of the instrument can be made, where after the test protocol can be transferred to the computer for comparison with earlier measurement results.

The Ovality Kit is an accessory to the DI-4C Deflection Indicator and is designed primarily to measure cylinder liner wear and ovality, diameters 180 - 600 mm. However, the device can be modified to take measurements from various applications to your own requirements.

NOTE ! The total measuring range is : + 2,015 mm to - 2,015 mm

The complete kit and method of assembly:

  • Mount the measuring adapter (K) to the transducer (B) and secure with set screw (use 2 mm hexagon). Item (K1) for cylinder liners from 180 - 270 mm. Item (K2) for cylinder liners from 270 - 380 mm. Item (K3) for cylinder liners from 380 - 600 mm.
    Check that the measuring ball rod is moving freely, apply a drop of oil if necessary.
  • Join appropriate lengths of extension bars (C) between the transducer (B) and the hole of the Ball Tip (M) at the opposite end to match the correct diameter size.
  • Attach the vertical extension arms (L) to each end (M) & (K).
  • Connect both adapter blocks (F) + (G) with the required horizontal extension arms (H) to suit the liner top diameter. Extension arms (H) will be used to rotate the apparatus when fully assembled.
  • End stoppers (O) are fitted from the factory to the upper end of the vertical extensionarms. This will prevent either extension arm accidently slipping through the hole.
  • Insert the assembled device into the liner. Adjust the outer parts of the adapter blocks (F) and (G) and arm (H) to enable tracking around the liner top whilst the small side thrust rollers are in contact with the internal diameter of the liner. Tighten all three locking screws.
  • Adjust the vertical arms to the same height and firmly lock the locking screws. We recommend to start measurement from the bottom of the liner, where the cylinder diameter normally is very close to the original.
  • Start the instrument by depress the OK button. For display light, press ^ for 3 seconds.
  • Enter figures (according to DI-4C manual) all the way down until you reach RESET on instrument display.
  • Turn the adjusting screw at the transducer until a reading somewhere close to - 2,000 mm. (Enables a positive measuring range of over 4,000 mm)
  • Accept ZERO set by pushing OK .
  • Rotate the shaft to the measuring positions and accept by pushing OK at each position.

When the measuring points in the bottom have been stored, move the vertical bars to next measuring level. Note! To get both wear and ovality in the cylinder do not re-set to zero between measuring levels in the liner. When all positions at the different levels are stored, switch of the instrument by holding OK for 3 seconds, or connect to your PC and transfer the measuring data to the PC program, according to DI-4C PC manual.
